From Seasonal Blues to Bold Moves!

It’s that time of year again. The days feel shorter, the sunlight more elusive, and with it comes the weight of seasonal blues. You’re not feeling like your usual self, and everything feels just a little heavier. If you’ve been thinking about starting something new—whether it’s a business, a creative project, or stepping out of your comfort zone—this heaviness might make it feel impossible. Here’s a little reminder:

This season of your life, just like the weather outside, will pass. And even now, in this quieter, more reflective time, you are capable of so much more than you realize.

When the seasons shift—or for us in Belize, when the cool air settles in and nature seems to slow down—it’s natural to feel less motivated. The lack of warmth from the sun can lower our energy, and the pressure of the holidays might amplify feelings of inadequacy or self-doubt. You’re not alone in feeling this way and part of the reason I decided to blog again. It’s important to understand that these feelings don’t define you. They are simply part of the rhythm of life, and they don’t have to stop you from moving toward your dreams. God/Universe will not stop the natural order of life to accommodate us. We just have to move around it and make it work. In fact, this time of year is perfect for planting the seeds of something new. Use this season to nurture your goals and begin to grow, but first, it starts with a mindset shift.

Here are three truths I want you to hold onto:

  1. Your worth doesn’t change with what is taking place externally. You are enough in every moment, even in the most difficult times.
  2. Small steps are still progress. You don’t have to attempt to build Rome in a day. Have you ever seen a baby take its first steps by taking off running?
  3. This feeling is temporary. Your light will return, both outside and within you.

My advice to you is to take gentle, but meaningful steps toward your goals.

Allow yourself grace and acknowledge how you’re feeling without judgment (We listen and we don’t judge.🙂). Journal, meditate, or talk to a friend. Remember that self-care isn’t just a “trend”; it’s essential. Simple acts like taking a walk, eating nourishing food, or connecting with like-minded people can lift your mood and keep your energy steady. Sometimes, simply acknowledging your emotions helps to lighten the weight. Use this time for reflection. What do you want to achieve in the next few months? Write it down. Dream big, but focus on one or two achievable goals to start, then start with one small action, like setting up a vision board, creating a to-do list, or reaching out to someone for advice. Progress, no matter how small, will boost your confidence. Plus, there is something satisfying about checking off things on a To-Do list.

Don’t forget to always surround yourself with positive people who can remind you of your strength and serve as an inspiration to you. Sometimes that may look like dethatching yourself from certain friend group, family members, unhealthy habits, and even romantic partners. If you experience seasonal depression you may feel like hibernating, but this is your time to prepare for what’s next. Remember, you are not small. You are a woman with dreams, talents, and a purpose that the world needs. Even in the darkest times, your light is still there, ready to shine.

Take that first step today, however small. The seeds you plant now will grow into something beautiful, and spring—both in nature and in your life—will come again.

You are capable. You are enough. You are ready!
